Anger at Cox

Angry at Cox? You should be because he's the guy who has not only wreaked havoc on our economy by manipulating the financial system, he's the guy that defrauded taxpayers out of over $10 billion by closing and selling off El Toro to favor his development buddies and himself. Now look at the fine mess Cox left us that reduced our property values, and left us with a toxic wasteland called El Toro a.k.a. the so-called "Great Park".

Welcome to www.eltoronow.com , a website dedicated to telling the truth about the fraudulent closing of MCAS El Toro and the toxicity cover-ups that have been taking place for years related to MCAS El Toro and the neighborhoods surrounding the base.  This fraud has been supported by many people inside and outside of government, but none have played a bigger part than Chris Cox, the former Congressman and current Chairman of the S.E.C.

ElToroNow.com is a not-for-profit, educational, news-reporting web site; our mission is to provide valuable information for the benefit of the public.

In September of 2003, a group of concerned Orange County, California citizens initiated a research project called El Toro Today.  Initially our purpose was to work for a commercial airport reuse of MCAS El Toro.  But, about three months into our project, we were astounded at the level of corruption and conspiracy we discovered in our research on the closing of MCAS El Toro.  At that point, our emphasis and purpose changed from trying to establish a commercial airport at MCAS El Toro to trying to expose the corruption at all levels of government in the closing of MCAS El Toro.

MCAS El Toro did not meet any of the criteria necessary to justify a military base closure through the BRAC process.  There were five reasons given for closing MCAS El Toro in the 1993 BRAC Report to the President.  As you will recognize as you read our survey of two former Base Commanders of MCAS El Toro, not one of those five reasons for closing the base was valid.

Why was MCAS El Toro closed?  There is substantial, well documented evidence that shows MCAS El Toro was closed so that Donald Bren and the Irvine Company could develop the land they own around MCAS El Toro under a residential zone rather than a commercial zone.  Christopher Cox and his wife were agents that made that process work, and they defrauded the U.S. Taxpayers out of $13.8 Billion dollars in the process of closing and selling El Toro.

Today, there remain significant toxicity issues related to MCAS that could greatly affect the citizens of Irvine, California and the surrounding cities especially for those living in the residential neighborhoods of Woodbridge, Orangetree, Westpark, Oak Creek, Northwood, and others.  Over the years, a 3-mile by 1 mile plume of Trichloroethylene (TCE) has extended (and continues to extend) off the base at El Toro out into the city of Irvine.  This plume is the shallow underground water that's under thousands of houses, apartments, schools, etc. in the city of Irvine, and as of today, none of these residents have been tested for TCE vapor intrusion—a looming problem nobody in Irvine has bothered to address.

This website is dedicated to telling the public the truth about the fraudulent closing of MCAS El Toro, the fraudulent reuse planning of MCAS El Toro and the toxicity cover-up that has been taking place for years related to MCAS El Toro where the "Great Park" is being built, and in the neighborhoods surrounding the base.
